PI System Explorer (PSE PI AF) Web

Please consider creating a web application like PI Vision Admin, PI Web API Search, PI Manual Logger for Web, and the various integrators, but for PI System Explorer (PSE, PI AF). I would prefer this to the client-server design now. It would make version management, software dependency management, upgrading, firewall/network-services management, etc. easier. This would obviate the need to re-package the OSIsoft installers in whatever software package management software an organization uses. Another solution would be to use the Windows 10 application store. However, that wouldn't mesh well with using Cloud IaaS services. OSIsoft could even offer this new PSE Web as a PaaS: gear, Juju charm, Docker container, Amazon image, whatever.

Absolutely would like to see a Web/HTML version of PSE, even a limited use version for the AF DB only Elements only to be used a a general User interface, while keeping the Client installed version for Administration.

I agree with that at least a limited web version is wanted. Often users have a need to change attribute values. The rest can be left for adminstrators using the Windows version. I doubt a complete web version will be as handy to work with as the current Windows version is.

Well, let me correct the real world, it isn't administrators, just administrator, and try a growing number today of 30 users. It definitely would be nice to control permissions to static attributes for those users as the need to update max capacity and contact information.

As a user, I want to be able to configure PI AF via a web browser, so that I do not have to use a thick client.

Customers have expressed interest in a PI AF web UI that would enable casual PI AF users to build simple analytics & event frames, and view Analysis logic without having to work in the full PI System Explorer client.

We are moving from PB to PI Vision, PI DL is planned to move to Online Excel, Manual logger is now HTML5 enabled. So great to see the way OSISoft is moving towards mobile worker. Is there any plan for PI AF Explorer thick client also to move to a Web based tool in near future ?

I agree. PI System Explorer could be a really useful user tool if it were converted to Web and if you could then right click on an element and add hyperlinks. The lack of hyperlink capability greatly reduces its value as an AF browser type application

PI System Explorer is a configuration tool for configuring objects in AF.  Are you using PI System Explorer as a visualization tool? As to hyperlinks, you can configure the extended property of an element with a hyperlink.  You can also configure an attribute of an element with a hyperlink. Having said that, I'm curious as to what kind of hyperlink you would put on an element?  Where would the hyperlink take you?

In response to Stephen Kwan, "PI System Explorer is a configuration to..." I thought you were in my presentation last week Stephen. I need some kind of a starting point to get from PI Vision (or a web version of PI AF) to other vendors related displays for a particular asset in the hierarchy. Have a look through slides 29 to the end and you should get my intent. Mike

Since there is little left in PI System Management Tools that is not obsolete, I can see PI System Management Tools and PI System Explorer being combined into the same web app. These might even be combined with PI Vision. This would also be the perfect chance for OSIsoft to start using WebAssembly to make the app very fast. I'm not sure which program would be a higher priority to migrate first. PI System Management Tools is in greater need of an upgrade and has less to migrate but few non-administrator users use it. PI System Explorer is the opposite.

Can you explain why this doesn't fit in your overall product strategy. For us this means a high impact to keep thick clients up and running for end-users. Peter

It would be extremely useful to have a web based PI System Explorer. This would allow 2 major things to happen, 1/ Would not have to roll out PSE or AFClient to any users 2/ Can edit AF/PSE items via existing web tunnel through Firewall for PIVision
