About the tuning parameter pointDB_RemoveEmptySource the following Article : https://customers.osisoft.com/s/knowledgearticle?knowledgeArticleUrl=KB01008
Indicates :
Perform any of the following actions to trigger removal of empty point sources: Create any new point that uses an existing point source Change the point source of an existing point Delete any point.
But after some tests, as soon as I create a new source point via PI-SMT, it is deleted a few seconds after being created, making the source point creation function via PI-SMT useless.
In addition, on our test server this deleted a source point created during installation, but not yet used. Source points created automatically by the system should not be able to be deleted automatically!
Furthermore, point source modification, addition, deletion aren't traced by the audit functionnality.
It's a shame not to be able to simply delete unused source points individually and manually.
Especially since they can easily be created by accident following a typing error when creating a tag.
An easy way to manage empty point source would make this tuning parameter useless.
Hello and thank you for this idea - this tuning parameter will delete all point sources, regardless of whom creates it or when, if there are no tags that belong to that point source. I want to ask, why are point sources being created manually in PI SMT via the Point Source Table?
My recommendation would be to create new Point Sources at the time of tag creation via PI SMT or Excel's PI Builder add-in. This way, at least one PI Tag belongs to that Point Source, and it will not be deleted.
