Update a Subset of Event Frames' Security Without Changing "Modified Date"

Currently, there is not a way to update a subset of Event Frames' security in bulk, without changing the Event Frame's "Modified Date." For example, to add a new AF Identity with "read" permissions to a subset of Event Frames.

Some customers use downstream third-party applications which rely on the "Modified Date" to check for updates to Event Frames of interest. With many Event Frames, bulk updates to the "Modified Date" can cause severe performance issues downstream.

Currently, only the following is an option:

  • Add the Identity with "read" permission to the whole database using AFDiag /AddIdentity. Then, remove "read" permissions for the Identity manually from the undesired items, leaving "read" permission for the subset of Event Frames.

This will avoid updating the Event Frame's "Modified Date," but deleting the undesired "read" permissions can lead to a very large amount of manual work, depending on the size of the system.
